Employee Spotlight - Keri
We recently sat down with Keri and asked her a couple of questions about her design process and how she approaches a new project.
What’s the first step you take when starting a new project’s design?
Starting a new design project is a bit like baking a cake. First, I need to understand the recipe - that means getting a clear picture of the goals, priorities, and how the space will be used. From there, I gather the “ingredients”: site constraints, inspiration, budget, and functional needs. Once those pieces are in place, I can begin shaping the overall framework. I do my best work when I can see the full picture early on. Along the way, it’s often the smaller, more personal insights that really guide the design - for instance, if I make you a cake, I want to know your favorite flavor. That kind of detail helps ensure the final result feels thoughtful, tailored, and ultimately more satisfying than a one-size-fits-all solution.
What tool or technique do you rely on most in your design process?
3D rendering software is a game changer in my process. It allows ideas to move from technical plans and become something clients can truly see and understand. That clarity leads to better decisions, fewer surprises, and a more collaborative design experience overall.
